About The Record:

Athens Revisited showcases the work of Vassilis Tsitsanis, a pivotal figure in modern Rebetiko and Laiko music, known for his bouzouki virtuosity and innovative compositions. This compilation album features a selection of Tsitsanis’s songs, reflecting the vibrant Greek urban music scene and his ability to blend traditional rebetika with contemporary influences. Historically significant for capturing Tsitsanis’s transformative impact on Greek popular music, the album highlights his role in elevating laiko tragoudi (people’s song) during a period of cultural and political change in Greece. Notable tracks include The Little Crabs (Ta Kavourakia), a rebetiko classic popularized by Stelios Kazantzidis, which gained prominence for its evocative lyrics and melody. The album remains a testament to Tsitsanis’s enduring legacy in shaping Greek music.
