About The Record:
A Portrait of, by Wes Montgomery,is a compilation showcasing the jazz guitarist's work from earlier sessions, primarily from the late 1950s. It features Montgomery’s signature thumb-plucking style and octave techniques, with tracks like Fingerpickin’ highlighting his innovative approach to jazz guitar. The album draws from his Pacific Jazz recordings, including collaborations with his brothers, Buddy and Monk Montgomery, and other notable musicians like Freddie Hubbard. There are no documented hit singles from this specific compilation, as it was more of a retrospective release rather than a source of chart-topping tracks. The album serves as a tribute to Montgomery’s early career.
