About The Record:

Kismet (With The Mastersounds), by Wes Montgomery, is a jazz interpretation of the musical Kismet, featuring compositions by Alexander Borodin adapted by Robert Wright and George Forrest. Led by vibraphonist Buddy Montgomery, the ensemble includes pianist Richie Crabtree, bassist Monk Montgomery, drummer Benny Barth, and Wes Montgomery on guitar, delivering a mellow and lyrical chamber jazz sound. The album, released on the World Pacific label, is noted for its vivid and well-mastered pressing, with standout tracks like Not Since Nineveh showcasing a more uptempo vibe, though Wes Montgomery’s tasteful solos complement rather than dominate the group’s performance. Critics, including Allmusic’s Matthew Greenwald, praise it as an excellent reading of the beloved musical and a significant historical record for Montgomery fans. While the album itself was highly regarded, there are no specific hit singles identified from this release, as it primarily features a cohesive suite of tracks like Overture: Not Since Nineveh/Olive Tree/Stranger in Paradise and Fate.
