About The Record:

Symphonic Treasures, 2 is a 1978 vinyl LP album released under the Symphonic Treasures label, featuring a compilation of highlights from Jacques Offenbach's most celebrated operettas, including The Tales of Hoffmann, Orpheus in the Underworld, La Belle Hélène, Gaîté Parisienne, and La Périchole. Performed by an unnamed orchestra, the album divides the medley into two parts across its sides, capturing the effervescent and melodic essence of Offenbach's 19th-century works in a symphonic arrangement. Historically significant as part of a budget classical music series aimed at introducing audiences to operetta treasures during the late 1970s vinyl revival, it reflects the enduring popularity of Offenbach's satirical and tuneful compositions, which influenced composers like Johann Strauss II and even modern film scores. The album's release coincides with a broader cultural interest in light classical music, making Offenbach's buoyant can-cans and waltzes accessible to casual listeners amid the disco era. Notably, there were no hit singles from this classical compilation, as it was not oriented toward pop charts.
