About The Record:
Symphonic Treasures, 12 cataloged as ST 12-M on Disc Records, is a 12-inch vinyl LP from the Symphonic Treasures series, featuring orchestral performances of classical works, including Georges Bizet’s Suite from Carmen, Modest Mussorgsky’s A Night on Bald Mountain, and Robert Schumann’s Overture to Manfred. Released in the United States as part of a mid-1950s budget-friendly classical series, it aimed to make high-quality symphonic music accessible to a wider audience during the vinyl boom, capitalizing on the era’s growing interest in hi-fi audio systems. This album, manufactured and printed in the U.S., holds historical significance for its role in democratizing classical music through affordable LPs, contributing to the post-war cultural appreciation of orchestral works. The selections, performed by skilled orchestras, showcase dramatic and evocative pieces, with A Night on Bald Mountain particularly notable for its vivid imagery, later popularized in Disney’s Fantasia (1940).
