About The Record:
Tell It Like It Is, by George Benson, is a jazz-oriented release showcasing his skilled guitar work blended with soulful vocal performances on select tracks. The album features Benson's interpretation of the classic title track originally popularized by Aaron Neville, along with energetic covers like Soul Limbo and Land of 1000 Dances that highlight his versatility across genres. A unique aspect is the tight production incorporating Latin percussion elements while allowing space for Benson's tasty guitar fills and solos in various styles. Fan-favorites often include the emotive title song and groovy instrumentals that capture his early fusion of jazz and R&B vibes. The project stands as an interesting snapshot of Benson transitioning his instrumental prowess with occasional singing that would later define much of his broader success.
