About The Record:

Wizard of Oz (MGM), by various artists including Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, and Bert Lahr, is a soundtrack album that blends key musical numbers with passages of dialogue and underscore directly from the 1939 film, creating a narrative experience that tells much of the story on vinyl. A 1962 gatefold reissue of the pioneering 1956 LP with electronic stereo editions also appearing, it stands out for its innovative format at the time as one of the earliest major soundtrack releases to integrate spoken scenes alongside songs rather than isolated tracks. Historically significant as it capitalized on the film's massive success as an annual television event, helping preserve and popularize the iconic score by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg for new generations. Fan-favorites and popular songs include Over the Rainbow performed by Judy Garland, Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead, We're Off to See the Wizard, and the character numbers If I Only Had a Brain, If I Only Had a Heart, If I Only Had the Nerve, and If I Were King of the Forest.
