About The Record:
March 6, 1925-June 15, 1968, by Wes Montgomery, is a posthumous compilation released in 1968 by Riverside Records, featuring tracks from his earlier small-combo recordings. It serves as a memorial to Montgomery, who died of a heart attack at age 45, showcasing his innovative jazz guitar style with a focus on hard bop and soul jazz. The album includes notable tracks like Jingles, Body & Soul, Sandu, Grooveyard, Cotton Tail, and While We're Young, highlighting his distinctive thumb-plucking technique and melodic phrasing. Produced by Orrin Keepnews with mastering by Bob Thiele, it captures Montgomery’s work in a more intimate setting compared to his later, larger ensemble recordings. No specific hit singles are identified from this compilation, as it primarily draws from his earlier catalog without emphasis on chart-topping tracks.
