About The Record:

Joyous Christmas, Volume 7 is a 1973 compilation album released by Columbia Special Products (catalog P 11918) as a promotional item exclusively for the Beneficial Finance System, marking the final installment in a seven-volume series of holiday music distributed to customers during the early 1970s. This various artists collection blends traditional carols with popular Christmas tunes, featuring performances by prominent Columbia Records artists including Julie Andrews (Silent Night), Jim Nabors (Go Tell It On The Mountain), Tammy Wynette (Joy To The World), Tony Bennett (My Favorite Things), Aretha Franklin (Kissin' By The Mistletoe), Vikki Carr (What Child Is This), and the Ray Conniff Singers (Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer), alongside orchestral medleys by the Senior Concert Orchestra and contributions from Mitch Miller and the Gang. Historically significant as part of a broader trend of corporate-sponsored Christmas albums in the postwar era—similar to Goodyear's long-running Great Songs of Christmas series also produced by Columbia—these limited-edition LPs served as marketing tools to build customer loyalty through affordable or free holiday gifts, reflecting the era's blend of commercialism and seasonal goodwill. The album closes with the original track Joyous Christmas performed by the Beneficial Singers, a custom piece likely created to tie the series together. While no tracks from this compilation achieved hit single status on their own—as these promotional releases were not commercially marketed and focused on established recordings rather than new chart contenders—it includes enduring holiday favorites that contributed to the cultural soundtrack of 1970s Christmases.
