About The Record:

Nicholas, Glover and Wray, by Nicholas, Glover and Wray, is a self-titled debut studio effort from the popular San Francisco Bay Area female vocal trio of Julie Nicholas, Sheilah Glover, and Willow Wray, who had been performing together since 1978 and earned a strong local reputation for their outstanding close harmonies, strong solo voices, theatrics, and humor during the flourishing cabaret scene of the era. The album blends jazz standards, blues, pop, and a few cutting-edge original esoteric pieces, all threaded together with their impeccable vocal blend, and was smoothly produced by Terry Garthwaite at the Automatt studio featuring top Bay Area musicians. A unique aspect is its status as a relatively rare independent release on their own NGW Records label that captured the trio's versatile cabaret style mixing homespun pop, earthy blues, precise harmonies, and surreal folk touches, helping cement their nickname as "The Ladies of the 80s" while they later received multiple Cabaret Gold Awards and Cable Car awards for their live performances. Fan-favorites and live staples drawn from their repertoire include tracks like Freedom Jazz Dance, Lullaby Of Birdland, and various standards showcasing their range, with their overall harmonious synergy often highlighted in reviews as setting them apart from other vocal trios. There were no hit singles or chart success for the album itself.
