About The Record:
They're Playing Our Song by Lucille Ball's daughter Lucie Arnaz (featured prominently alongside Robert Klein on the original Broadway cast recording), is the cast album of the hit Neil Simon musical with music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager, chronicling the witty, neurotic romance between a composer and a lyricist whose collaborative partnership turns personal. A unique aspect is its basis in the real-life relationship dynamics of its creators Sager and Hamlisch (with Simon's book adding comedic flair), making it a semi-autobiographical two-hander that became a Broadway success with strong comedic timing and memorable tunes. Fan-favorites and popular songs from the score include Workin' It Out, If He Really Knew Me, I Still Believe in Love, Just for Tonight, and the title number They're Playing Our Song, many of which gained wider recognition through covers by artists like Johnny Mathis and Frank Sinatra. The show itself was historically significant as a major Broadway hit running for over 1,000 performances and marking Lucie Arnaz's acclaimed Broadway debut, showcasing her talents inherited from her iconic mother.
