About The Record:

Sail Away by Randy Newman, stands as one of his most acclaimed works, blending sweeping orchestral arrangements with sharp satirical lyrics that critique American society, human folly, and historical injustices in a musically adventurous style drawing from New Orleans R&B and traditional pop. The title track Sail Away delivers a chilling ironic portrayal of a slave trader enticing Africans with visions of the American dream, while Political Science offers biting commentary on global politics and God's Song (That's Why I Love Mankind) presents a cynical view of divinity. Fan-favorites and notable songs include the provocative You Can Leave Your Hat On (later popularized by covers in films), the whimsical Simon Smith and the Amazing Dancing Bear, and the atmospheric Burn On referencing environmental disaster. Critically revered for its lyrical subtlety and deceptive charm, the album has earned lasting historical significance, ranking on lists like Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. No hit singles emerged from the album.
