About The Record:
A New Kind of Love, by Erroll Garner, is a lush orchestral jazz album featuring the pianist's debut as a composer of motion picture themes, with several original pieces created for the Paramount film starring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Garner performs with a magnificent 35-piece orchestra conducted by Leith Stevens, expanding beyond his signature trio format and showcasing his natural ability to orchestrate while reinterpreting both his film compositions and standards like You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me, Louise, Mimi, and Paris Mist in exciting, fulfilling arrangements that blend swing with cinematic flair. This project marks a historically significant moment as Garner's only film score, highlighting his emotionally charged style that suited the big screen and brought his piano artistry into a new dimension with rich string and horn sections. Fan-favorites often include the gentle swing of the title track You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me and the theme from the film itself, which alternates Latin cha-cha elements with propulsive swing suggestive of Parisian settings. No chart information is available for any hit singles or the album itself.
