About The Record:

Cruising (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), by Various Artists, is a diverse compilation featuring a striking blend of hardcore punk, hard funk, rock, and disco tracks curated for William Friedkin's controversial 1980 thriller set in New York City's underground leather scene. The album stands out for its inclusion of rare and aggressive punk recordings, most notably the Germs' Lion's Share, one of the few documented studio tracks by the influential but short-lived band fronted by Darby Crash. Other notable contributions include Willy DeVille's soulful rock numbers like Heat of the Moment and It's So Easy, John Hiatt's Spy Boy, Rough Trade's Shakedown, and the raw energy of the songs Loneliness and Hypnotize. Historically significant for capturing the era's fringe music scenes amid the film's divisive portrayal of gay culture, it has gained cult status over time for its eclectic and gritty soundscape. Fan favorites often highlight the punk tracks for their raw intensity and the funkier cuts for their atmospheric vibe. No hit singles or significant chart success for the album or its tracks are documented.
