About The Record:
Champagne Cocktail, is an album by Ambrose and His Orchestra. Ambrose (his professional name was officially Bert Ambrose, but he was universally known simply as Ambrose) was an English bandleader and violinist born in 1896 in London, England. Ambrose studied music in New York and in his teens played violin in cinema pit orchestras, accompanying silent movies. He was dance band leader at the Embassy Club and May Fair Hotel in the 1930s. Ambrose is credited with discovering singers Vera Lynn and Kathy Kirby. Lynn sang with his band from 1937 to 1940. Liner notes say, "Fine arrangements, superb playing...here indeed is the champagne of the 1930's, a unique cocktail mixed and served by...Ambrose."
