About The Record:
Play (12" Single), by Jennifer Lopez, features the global dance-pop smash Play, a futuristic track built around a prominent sample of Saxophone Concerto by Rudy Wiedoeft mixed with the iconic saxophone riff from T.S.O.P. (The Sound of Philadelphia) by MFSB. Widely regarded as one of the earliest high-profile commercial releases to heavily use Auto-Tune as a deliberate stylistic choice rather than just correction, the song helped popularize the robotic vocal effect that dominated 2000s and 2010s pop and hip-hop. The single became a massive international hit, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart, and topping charts in over a dozen countries including Canada and Australia. Fan-favorite remixes on the 12-inch vinyl include the thumping club versions by Thunderpuss and the darker, moodier Artful Dodger mix, both heavily played in clubs at the time. Play remains one of Lopez’s signature songs and a defining early-2000s dance anthem.
