About The Record:
Barbarella, by The Bob Crewe Generation Orchestra, is the soundtrack to the cult sci-fi film starring Jane Fonda, featuring a groovy late-1960s score composed by Charles Fox with lyrics and production by Bob Crewe that blends psychedelic pop, lounge, and orchestral elements to capture the movie's campy, erotic space adventure vibe. A unique aspect is the inclusion of vocal tracks amid mostly instrumental cues, such as the title song performed by The Glitterhouse and An Angel Is Love sung by Bob Crewe himself, adding a distinctive pop flair to the otherwise atmospheric film music. The album stands out historically as an example of tie-in soundtracks from the era that leaned into mod and psych sounds rather than traditional scoring, reflecting Crewe's background in hit-making pop production. Fan-favorites often include the catchy, shimmering title track Barbarella with its memorable vocal hook and the dreamy An Angel Is Love, alongside evocative instrumentals like Spaceship Out Of Control and Ski Ride that evoke the film's exotic set pieces. The title song Barbarella was released as a single but did not achieve notable chart success.
