About The Record:

Yesterday, When I Was Young, by Roy Clark, is a reflective country album showcasing his warm, sincere vocal style on a mix of introspective ballads and standards. The title track, a poignant cover of Charles Aznavour's French original Hier Encore with English lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, stands as the centerpiece with its themes of nostalgia, regret, and the passage of time, delivered in Clark's emotive Oklahoma manner that resonated deeply with listeners. Other notable inclusions feature covers like September Song alongside originals and tunes such as The Days of Sand and Shovels and A Simple Thing as Love, highlighting Clark's guitar prowess and heartfelt interpretations. As co-host of the popular Hee Haw TV series around this period, the project amplified his crossover appeal beyond pure country audiences. The album itself reached No. 8 on the country charts and No. 50 on the Billboard 200, while its lead single Yesterday, When I Was Young hit No. 9 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles and No. 19 on the Hot 100.
