About The Record:
Greatest Hits, by Andre Kostelanetz, gathers 11 orchestral pop and easy listening arrangements from the conductor's extensive catalog during his peak commercial years. Curated to showcase Kostelanetz's lush, string-driven interpretations of contemporary hits, film themes, and classical favorites, the album features standout tracks like Somewhere, My Love (Lara's Theme) from Doctor Zhivago—a major radio and sales success—and The Shadow of Your Smile from The Sandpiper, both emblematic of his ability to transform vocal pop into instrumental elegance. Historically significant as one of the few Kostelanetz compilations issued during his lifetime, it reflects the height of the easy listening boom in the late 1960s, with several selections drawn from his bestselling Columbia albums of the era. The tracklist balances light classical pieces such as The Blue Danube Waltz and Sabre Dance with modern pop covers like Bluesette and Fools Rush In, demonstrating his genre-blending appeal. Though no traditional vocal singles charted, Somewhere, My Love remains his most iconic and widely recognized orchestral hit.
