About The Record:

The Big Band Sound of by Zim Zemarel and His Orchestra delivers a lively collection of contemporary 1970s hits reinterpreted through the classic swing and brass-driven arrangements of big band jazz. The album captures a groovy, smooth vibe by blending upbeat rhythms with sophisticated horn sections, making familiar pop, soft rock, and Broadway tunes feel fresh and danceable in a traditional large-ensemble format. Standout tracks include the energetic take on Lido Shuffle, the heartfelt After The Lovin, the cinematic Evergreen (Love Theme From A Star Is Born), the theatrical Tomorrow (From The Broadway Musical Annie) alongside What I Did For Love (From The Broadway Musical A Chorus Line), and swinging versions of New York, New York (Theme From New York, New York) and Lowdown, which highlight the orchestra's ability to fuse modern melodies with jazz flair. An interesting aspect is its focus on then-current chart-toppers and show tunes like If You Leave Me Now and Tricia, showcasing how big band traditions adapted to the disco and soft rock era. The band, long active in the Baltimore area, also appeared in Barry Levinson films Avalon and Park Heights.
