About The Record:
Solitude on Guitar by Baden Powell, is a captivating solo guitar album (with minimal percussion on some tracks) that showcases the Brazilian virtuoso's masterful technique, emotional depth, and blend of bossa nova, samba, jazz, and classical influences, recorded during a period of personal solitude while on tour in Germany and reflecting his longing for his wife Márcia through contemplative and poetic performances. A unique and interesting fact is its creation amid Baden Powell's loneliness after his recent marriage, inspiring pieces like Márcia Eu Te Amo and Solitário written just before the sessions, contributing to the album's intimate, introspective mood that has made it a timeless classic in his discography. Historically significant as a pinnacle of his career while living in Europe, it highlights his evolution from bossa nova roots to broader expressive solo work, featuring standout interpretations such as a highly praised jazzy take on The Shadow of Your Smile often called one of the finest versions of the standard, alongside dreamy originals like Introducao Ao Poema Dos Olhos Da Amada (co-composed with Vinicius de Moraes) and enchanting unaccompanied pieces like Brasiliana and Por Causa De Você. Fan-favorites frequently include The Shadow of Your Smile for its sensitivity, Márcia Eu Te Amo for its romantic dedication, and the rhythmic Na Gafieira Do Vidigal, all demonstrating his ability to make the guitar sound almost orchestral.
