About The Record:

Live, by Della Reese, was released by ABC-Paramount Records and recorded at Western Recorders in Hollywood on May 17, 1966. Despite being studio-recorded, it captures a live atmosphere with Reese and jazz musicians, including Ray Brown, Bill Doggett, and Herb Ellis, performing in one take to evoke a house party vibe. The album features ten tracks, blending jazz, blues, and pop, with selections like Driftin’ Blues and Who Can I Turn To? showcasing Reese’s powerful, emotive vocals. It reached No. 149 on the US Billboard 200, marking Reese’s final chart appearance, and received praise from Billboard and Cash Box for its lively, engaging energy. Critics, including Waltz Friedwald, lauded its outstanding quality, cementing its status as a notable entry in Reese’s jazz-focused discography.
