About The Record:
The Voice of an Angel, by Catherine Mckinnon, is a collection of folk songs that marked her rise as a leading pop singer of the 1960s in Canada. The album, her debut and biggest seller, showcased her pure, soprano voice with folk inflections, earning praise for tracks like her cover of Today and a duet on Dominique with her sister, Patrician Anne McKinnon. Historically significant for its role in popularizing Canadian folk music, it was tied to McKinnon’s prominence on CBC’s Singalong Jubilee, where she also popularized Farewell to Nova Scotia as the show’s theme. The album’s success contributed to McKinnon winning the 1965 RPM Award for Top Female Singer.
