About The Record:

Bach / Handel: Harfenkonzerte Harp Concertos, by Nicanor Zabaleta, features a collection of harp concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel, performed with the English Chamber Orchestra. Zabaleta, a renowned Spanish harpist, transcribed most of the works himself, adapting Bach’s Vivaldi-inspired concertos (BWV 973, 976, 978) and Handel’s organ concertos (HWV 309, 293, 294) for harp, showcasing his virtuosic technique and musical sensitivity. The album, spanning 20 tracks and approximately 65 minutes, includes notable performances of Handel’s Concerto for Harp in B-flat Major, Op. 4 No. 6, the only piece originally written for harp. Critics praise Zabaleta’s fastidious style and the album’s engaging, though slightly top-heavy, sound quality from recordings primarily made in 1978.
