About The Record:

Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, conducted by Zubin Mehta with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, features suites from John Williams' iconic scores for the films. Recorded in December 1977 at Royce Hall, UCLA, the album is celebrated for its rich, high-fidelity sound, with some audiophiles considering it superior to the original soundtrack recordings due to its exceptional performance and production quality. Historically significant as a cultural artifact, it captures the zeitgeist of the late 1970s when these science-fiction films revolutionized cinema and orchestral scoring, showcasing Mehta's ability to interpret Williams' complex compositions with precision and grandeur. The album includes notable tracks like Main Title from Star Wars and the Suite from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The album was primarily appreciated as a cohesive orchestral work.
