About The Record:

The Album, by King Family, features the extended group of over 30 relatives including the King Sisters, Alvino Rey's orchestra, and conductor Ralph Carmichael—performing inspirational and patriotic songs like He's Got the Whole World in His Hands, America the Beautiful, and Battle Hymn of the Republic in various family subgroup arrangements. This sophomore release coincided with the height of their ABC-TV series The King Family Show (1965-1966), a weekly variety program that showcased wholesome, multi-generational performances and symbolized mid-1960s American family values amid cultural upheavals. Historically significant for capturing the era's embrace of clean-cut entertainment, it contributed to the family's legacy as television pioneers in musical variety, influencing later acts and preserving folk-gospel traditions through stereo recordings. Tracks such as Shenandoah and You'll Never Walk Alone gained popularity via TV airings and became enduring fan favorites. Reissued in compilations, The Album endures as a nostalgic emblem of optimistic, faith-infused American music from the pre-counterculture peak.
