About The Record:

16 Early Hits, by Rod Stewart, released in 1977 by TRIP Records, is a compilation featuring early recordings from Stewart’s solo career, his time with the Jeff Beck Group, Faces, and Steampacket, highlighting his blues-rock roots. It includes tracks like Just A Little Misunderstood and Bright Lights Big City, showcasing his gritty vocal style alongside contributions from collaborators like Julie Driscoll and Brian Auger. Historically significant for capturing Stewart’s pre-stardom work, the album reflects the 1960s and early 1970s British rock and R&B scene, though it contains some misattributed tracks, with several actually by Small Faces (e.g., Collibosher, Autumn Stone). Notably, it lacks major hit singles like Maggie May or Reason to Believe, focusing instead on lesser-known early cuts. This vinyl LP, also released in Canada and as an 8-track cartridge, remains a collector’s item for fans of Stewart’s formative years.
