About The Record:
Zorba the Greek, by Mikis Theodorakis, is the soundtrack of the 20th Century Fox Movie by the same name. Theodorakis was a Greek composer and lyricist credited with over 1,000 works. He was also a major political figure in Greece for many years. For the score to Zorba the Greek, with its song Zorba's Dance, he was nominated for a Golden Globe. Zorba's Dance, an instrumental was used in the film to accompany the dance known as sirtaki. It is now commonly played and danced to in Greek tavernas. The film's track has since been recorded as a standalone song by many different musicians from around the world. The film itself was a smash hit grossing over nine million dollars at the U.S. box office in 1964.
