About The Record:
Stingray, by Joe Cocker, is a vibrant studio album that fuses rock, soul, and reggae, recorded in Kingston, Jamaica, where it gains a distinctive island flavor through contributions from Peter Tosh on arrangements and members of Bob Marley’s rhythm section, alongside an all-star lineup featuring Eric Clapton on guitar, the band Stuff, and top session players like Steve Gadd, Cornell Dupree, and Richard Tee. A standout feature is its reliance on cover songs, including two Bob Dylan compositions—Catfish (a then-unreleased track co-written with Jacques Levy) and The Man in Me—as well as Leon Russell’s A Song for You, delivered with Cocker’s signature raw passion, while also including the rare co-written original Born Thru Indifference. Fan favorites often highlight the reggae-infused The Man in Me for its heartfelt intensity in Cocker’s preferred style, the slinky groove of Catfish, and the emotionally charged A Song for You, making the record a compelling showcase of his interpretive power and eclectic musical reach. The album reached No. 70 on the US Billboard chart.
