The album's title is a humorous play on \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eCries and Whispers\u003c\/span\u003e, influential Swedish film-maker Ingmar Bergman's 1973 movie. The song \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eMillworker\u003c\/span\u003e, written by James Taylor, is from the short-lived Broadway production of \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eWorking\u003c\/span\u003e. Midler's recording of \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eMarried Men\u003c\/span\u003e reached the top 40 of the U.S. Club Play Singles chart. The song was also a UK top 40 hit for Bonnie Tyler the same year. The album was largely disco-influenced.
