Rossini's \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eBarber of Seville\u003c\/span\u003e is considered to be one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within music, and has been described as the opera buffa of all \"opere buffe\". After two hundred years, it remains a popular work. \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eThe Bartered Bride\u003c\/span\u003e is a comic opera in three acts by Smetana, to a libretto by Karel Sabina. The work is generally regarded as a major contribution towards the development of Czech music. \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eThe Merry Wives of Windsor,\u003c\/span\u003e is an 1849 opera in three acts by Nicolai to a German libretto by Salomon Hermann Mosenthal based on Shakespeare's play. It remains popular in Germany and Austria and its overture is sometimes heard in concert in other countries. \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eRosamunde\u003c\/span\u003e is a play by Helmina von Chézy, which is primarily remembered for the incidental music which Schubert composed for it.
