About The Record:
In Memoriam, by Michael Rabin, showcases the prodigious American violinist's breathtaking technique and velvet tone in a collection of beloved virtuosic showpieces and lyrical miniatures backed by the Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra under Felix Slatkin. Rabin, hailed as one of the most gifted violinists the US has produced and a child prodigy compared to Heifetz with flawless execution praised by his teacher Ivan Galamian as having no weaknesses, delivers explosive bowing, vibrant vibrato, and expressive depth on highlights like the fiery Zigeunerweisen, dazzling Hora Staccato, and the showstopping Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso. The album serves as a poignant tribute following his tragic death at age 35 from a fall-related head injury, preserving his legacy as a dazzling talent whose short career left fans and fellow musicians treasuring his recordings for their technical mastery and emotional appeal. Fan-favorites often include the energetic Moto Perpetuo and lyrical pieces like Meditation from Thaïs, capturing the magic of his playing that continues to captivate classical enthusiasts.
