About The Record:

Champagne Dance Time by Lawrence Welk is a compilation album showcasing his orchestra's signature easy listening arrangements tailored for dancing, blending timeless standards with polka influences. A unique highlight is the guest appearance by legendary alto saxophonist Johnny Hodges on Stardust and Someone To Watch Over Me, alongside trumpeter Dick Cathcart's contribution to Tennessee Waltz, adding a touch of jazz sophistication to Welk's champagne music style. Historically significant as a collection of Welk's recordings, it underscores his enduring legacy in popularizing accessible, family-friendly big band sounds during the mid-20th century television era. Fan-favorites from the tracklist include Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree, a modern pop hit reimagined in waltz time, alongside classics like Begin The Beguine, As Time Goes By, and the traditional Liechtensteiner Polka. The album opens with the bubbly instrumental Champagne Time, setting a festive tone for an evening of lighthearted, nostalgic tunes.
