About The Record:

Split Coconut, by Dave Mason, is a pop rock album influenced by his time in the Virgin Islands, reaching No. 27 on the Billboard pop charts. The album features a mix of Mason's signature melodic style with experimental elements like funk, disco, and calypso, backed by a tight band including David Crosby, Graham Nash, and The Manhattan Transfer on vocals. Critics noted it as a departure from his earlier blues rock sound, with tracks like the funky Split Coconut and the Buddy Holly cover Crying, Waiting & Hoping showcasing his versatility. Historically, the album reflects Mason's attempt to diversify his sound during the mid-1970s, a period when he maintained a high profile.
