About The Record:
Gold, by Carmen McRae, is a compilation album showcasing some of the most appreciated material from the singer's repertoire during her time with Mainstream Records, drawing primarily from her mid-1960s sessions including standout interpretations of standards. It highlights her sophisticated phrasing, behind-the-beat timing, and ironic lyric delivery that made her one of the most influential vocal jazz artists of the 20th century. Unique in its packaging of prized tracks into one welcome collection, the album features fan-favorites and highlights such as Alfie, Who Can I Turn To, The Music That Makes Me Dance, and Blame It On My Youth, offering timeless takes on Broadway, Hollywood, and jazz classics. Historically, it captures McRae at a point in her career where her work from the 1960s was being celebrated in a single package amid her ongoing influence and performances at major jazz festivals.
