Considered \"America’s mother of the air,\" she was portrayed by actress Virginia Payne, who began the role at the age of 19 and never missed a performance during the program's 27-year run. Kindly, trusting widow Ma Perkins had a big heart and a great love of humanity. She always offered her homespun philosophy to troubled souls in need of advice. \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eMa Perkins\u003c\/span\u003e is widely credited with giving birth to storytelling and content-based advertising. \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eHop Harrigan\u003c\/span\u003e was an American radio juvenile adventure program. It was broadcast from 1942 through 1948. The Hop Harrigan character originated in All American Comics, and the radio program was adapted from that publication.
