About The Record:

Reissued by the audiophile label Mobile Fidelity on LP, this Red Nichols set is a bit unusual in that it is a live session. The cornetist and his Five Pennies (which includes the great bass saxophonist Joe Rushton, clarinetist Bill Wood and trombonist Pete Beilman) plays one of their typical sets of the period. Nichols had a wide repertoire which included Dixieland standards (including St. Louis Blues, Fidgety Feet and Carolina in the Morning) and such unusual numbers as the exciting Entry of the Gladiators, Silver Threads Among the Gold and Lassus Trombone. This date is a fine outing for all of the players.
