About The Record:
Jam the Box, by Bill Summers, is a vibrant synth-funk and boogie album that showcases the artist's shift toward electro-tinged grooves with a tight, compressed 1980s street-oriented sound, featuring contributions from vocalists like Lori Ham, Calvin Tillery, Claytoven Richardson, and Larry Batiste. The title track Jam the Box stands out as a high-energy highlight, while We Call It the Box is frequently celebrated by fans as a favorite funky opener, alongside other notable cuts like Dreaming, At the Concert, and Throw Down. A unique aspect is its eye-catching cover art featuring a boom box, perfectly capturing the era's urban vibe and the emerging boombox culture in hip-hop and funk scenes. The album reflects Summers' versatility beyond his jazz-funk roots with The Headhunters, blending jazzy percussion touches with contemporary R&B and danceable rhythms. The album peaked at No. 92 on the Billboard charts.
