About The Record:
Do What You Gotta Do, by Bobby Vee, marked his eighteenth studio effort and, produced and arranged by Dallas Smith, showcased a shift toward R&B influences with several Motown covers. Critically, the album received praise for its fresh tracks, with Robert Reynolds noting their strength despite a less successful Four Tops medley. Historically, it reflects Vee’s attempt to adapt to changing musical trends in the late 1960s, a period when his chart dominance was waning. The title track, Do What You Gotta Do, was the only single, peaking at No. 83 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Run Like a Devil reached No. 124 on Billboard and No. 106 on Cashbox.
