About The Record:

It Might As Well Be Swing, by Sol Yaged, is the debut studio album by the renowned New York clarinetist, released in 1956 on the Herald label and featuring his quintet alongside vibraphonist Harry Sheppard, capturing the vibrant swing jazz sound of the era. Recorded when Yaged had already been performing professionally for over two decades, the album showcases his virtuosic clarinet work on a selection of standards and originals, blending energetic tempos with authentic 1940s and 1950s big band influences. Historically significant as Yaged's sole studio recording until a 2019 collaboration 63 years later, it highlights his enduring legacy as a Manhattan-based musician who gigged seven nights a week and shared stages with swing luminaries, continuing to perform until his death at age 96 in May 2019. The album was reissued by Pine Hill Records in 2018 on CD and white vinyl, remastered for modern audiences to preserve its lively essence. Tracks like the title song, After You've Gone, and Yacht Club Swing exemplify Yaged's speed and expertise in the genre.
