Guitar Boogie, by Arthur Smith, is a guitar instrumental that has been cited as the first Rock and Roll song. It was one of the first recordings in the style later dubbed "hillbilly boogie" to reach a widespread audience. The record eventually sold nearly three million copies and became a Gold record. It was the first guitar instrumental to climb the Country Music Charts, peaking at No. 8. The single also gained high rankings on the popular music charts.
