About The Record:
^ i^Warm / Open Fire, Two Guitars, by Johnny Mathis, is a combined release pairing two of his earlier intimate vocal showcases that emphasize romantic balladry and stripped-down accompaniment. The Open Fire, Two Guitars portion stands out for its unique sparse arrangement featuring just two guitars and bass rather than a full orchestra, creating a cozy fireside atmosphere with covers of standards like Embraceable You, My Funny Valentine, and I'll Be Seeing You alongside the title track by Leiber and Stoller and the original I'm Just a Boy in Love. Fan-favorites often include Mathis's tender, lingering interpretations that bring renewed sensuality to classics such as Tenderly and When I Fall in Love. The Warm section maintains a similarly heartfelt easy-listening mood with lush yet focused takes on songs like My One and Only Love and By Myself. This pairing highlights Mathis at his most confidential and emotionally direct, appealing to listeners seeking subtlety over grand production. The albums proved enduringly popular with Open Fire, Two Guitars reaching No. 4 and Warm reaching No. 2 on the Billboard album chart.
