About The Record:
Originally released by Epic Records in 1970 following the success of her mainstream breakthrough Stand By Your Man, THE WORLD OF TAMMY WYNETTE is not a conventional greatest hits album. In fact, none of Wynette's hit singles up to this point appeared on this double LP set. Instead, it collects earlier, non-charting singles, album tracks, and the like. At the time, the casual fan who just wanted to hear the hits might have felt a bit cheated, but THE WORLD OF TAMMY WYNETTE is not a cynical cash-in ploy: the material is uniformly fine and Wynette's voice is, as always, magical. Furthermore, this two-LP set quickly became the easiest way for fans to lay hands on some of Wynette's rarities.
