About The Record:

Harry James...Today! is a 1960 studio album by American trumpeter and bandleader Harry James, released on Columbia Records, showcasing his orchestra's vibrant take on classic swing and jazz standards. The record features energetic arrangements of tunes such as Undecided, Satin Doll, King Porter Stomp, Jersey Bounce, Rockin' in Rhythm, and Take the 'A' Train, highlighting James's signature trumpet prowess and the band's tight ensemble playing. Historically significant as a snapshot of big band music's resilience into the rock 'n' roll era, the album reflects James's ongoing commitment to the swing style that defined his career, even as popular tastes shifted dramatically in the late 1950s and early 1960s. James, who had launched Frank Sinatra's career in the early 1940s and notched numerous wartime hits like I've Heard That Song Before, used this release to reaffirm his place in jazz history amid declining commercial fortunes for traditional big bands. While the album itself did not produce major chart-topping singles, it contributed to James's enduring legacy without any standout hits from its tracks.
