About The Record:

The Best Of, by Bert Kaempfert, is a double-LP compilation showcasing the German orchestra leader's signature easy-listening sound featuring lush strings, muted brass, and prominent trumpet solos that defined his distinctive style. It gathers fan-favorites and popular instrumentals like Wonderland By Night, A Swingin' Safari, Strangers In The Night, Red Roses For A Blue Lady, Afrikaan Beat, and That Happy Feeling, many of which he composed or arranged, highlighting his talent for crafting catchy, melodic pieces often with a light jazz or exotic flair. Kaempfert's work stands out historically as a rare success for a non-English-speaking artist in the US market, where he sustained popularity in the easy-listening genre while also penning standards recorded by major stars like Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. The album captures his knack for blending continental sophistication with accessible pop appeal, including revived classics and originals that evoke a warm, swinging sophistication. Unique elements include the pennywhistle-inspired rhythms in some tracks reflecting his fascination with South African music, adding an intriguing global flavor to his orchestral arrangements. Strangers In The Night reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
