About The Record:
My Boy, by Richard Harris, is Richard Harris's third studio album, a concept album exploring a love story that evolves from platonic to a lost romance, culminating in a father's devotion to his son. The album, featuring only four Jimmy Webb songs, received mixed reviews, with critics noting its emotional depth but challenging, melancholic tone, distinct from Harris's earlier works like A Tramp Shining. Historically significant for its ambitious narrative and Harris's dramatic vocal delivery, it was part of his brief but notable singing career alongside his acclaimed acting. The title track, My Boy, was a hit single, reaching No. 41 on the Billboard pop chart and No. 13 on the Billboard adult contemporary chart after Harris performed it at a 1971 Radio Luxembourg music contest. The album's orchestral arrangements and Harris's emotive performance make it a unique, if polarizing, entry in his discography.
