About The Record:
Spirit of the Boogie by Kool and the Gang, is a high-energy funk masterpiece that blends blistering grooves, jazz influences, and spiritual themes rooted in African rhythms and ancestral homage. The album features standout percussion-driven tracks like the fiery title song, the improvisational Jungle Jazz which reworks elements of their earlier hit, and fan favorites such as Ride the Rhythm and Ancestral Ceremony that showcase the band's tight horn arrangements and rhythmic power. It stands as one of their last truly gritty funk and jazz efforts before a smoother evolution, with unique elements including African art-inspired packaging and self-referential musical quotes paying tribute to their roots. Public Enemy later sampled the title track, underscoring its lasting hip-hop influence. The title track hit No. 1 on the R&B chart and No. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Caribbean Festival reached No. 6 on the R&B chart.
