Vinyl plays with crackles (play-graded). Cover has a few creases; some scuffing, discoloration with darker discoloration spots, small surface abrasions (front/back). Inner-sleeve is original (lyrics/credits); two seams partially split, one seam mostly split. Spine is readable with wear. Shelf-wear along top/bottom-edge and corners. Opening is mostly crisp with signs of light use and divots. Columbia House pressing. Cream colored WB label with faint lines. (Not a cut-out.)

Breakin' Away, by Al Jarreau, became the standard bearer of the L.A. pop and R&B sound. Most of Breakin' Away has Jarreau in great spirits and giving one great performance after another, like the powerful and melody-rich title song. The album was certified Platinum by the RIAA. Breakin' Away remains Al Jarreau's most popular album. It spent two years on the Billboard 200 and peaked at No. 9. The album also hit No. 1 on both the Jazz and R&B charts. Three single releases made the charts: We're in This Love Together (No. 15 pop, No. 6 AC, No. 6 R&B), Breakin' Away (No. 43 pop, No. 30 AC, No. 25 R&B), and Teach Me Tonight (No. 70 pop, No. 19 AC, No. 51 R&B). At the Grammy Awards in 1982 the album was given the prize for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male, the album was also nominated for Album of the Year.
