About The Record:

Have A Merry Little, by Al Hirt, released in 1972 on RCA Camden and reissued in 1980 on Pickwick, is a festive holiday album showcasing the trumpeter’s versatility in blending jazz and pop with traditional Christmas songs. The album features nine tracks, including lively renditions of Nutty Jingle Bells, Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer, and a medley of I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus/Here Comes Santa Claus, all marked by Hirt’s signature vibrant trumpet style. While not a chart-topping release, the album is historically significant as a reissue of Hirt’s earlier work, The Sound of Christmas, reflecting his enduring popularity during the 1970s holiday music market. No singles from this album achieved significant chart success, but tracks like Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and Silver Bells are notable for their spirited arrangements and Hirt’s technical prowess. The album remains a cherished example of Hirt’s ability to infuse holiday classics with his New Orleans jazz flair.
