About The Record:

I Gotta Be Me...This Trip Out by Della Reese is a vibrant collection of eleven tracks that showcases her powerful vocal interpretations of popular 1960s Top 40 hits with soulful depth and jazz-inflected flair, arranged and conducted by Oliver Nelson. The album marks a strong return to her core musical roots after venturing into other styles, featuring standout covers such as Never My Love, My World Is Empty Without You (a fan-favorite for its emotional resonance), the title track I Gotta Be Me from the Broadway musical Golden Rainbow, For Once In My Life, and the groovy I Got The Blues. A unique aspect is its blend of contemporary pop covers with Reese's signature blend of R&B, gospel, and sophisticated delivery, highlighting her versatility just as she began expanding into television acting with a 1968 appearance on Mod Squad. No hit singles or charted success for the album itself are associated with this release.
